J'ai parlé précédemment de la préparation pour le "look and feel" de la pochette. Je voulais que l'image réussisse à traduire le style de l'album et ma personnalité mais il fallait aussi songer à des considérations techniques. J'ai eu de longues discussions avec mon ami et photographe Claude Brazeau au sujet du concept. Nous avons opté pour des photos studio sur fond blanc et discuté du style de vêtements. C'est lui qui m'a conseillé de faire appel à une styliste (Luce Papineau dont j'ai parlé dans un message précédent).

Après un arrêt chez la coiffeuse et la maquilleuse, me voilà au studio avec plusieurs choix de vêtements, de souliers et de bijoux et Claude a passé quelques heures à me photographier. Chose vraiment importante, Claude avait pris le temps d'écouter chacune des pièces de l'album pour bien en saisir l'atmosphère avant de faire les photos, de sorte qu'il est allé droit au but dans ses indications. Le résultat a été très concluant et, outre les photos pour la pochette, il y a de très belles photos que je pourrai utiliser dans différentes occasions, dans le site web entre autres.

Claude est non seulement un ami mais aussi un excellent photographe de mariage. C'est en fait sa spécialité, mais il a également plusieurs autres cordes à son arc, notamment dans le domaine des affaires et dans le milieu artistique. Il a photographié plusieurs artistes, conçu des affiches et collaboré à plusieurs pochettes d'albums. Il prend de magnifiques photos de spectacles et sait bien saisir le moment. Il a collaboré entre autre avec Châkidor, Norteño et plusieurs autres. Et moi, je me sens bien choyée de côtoyer quelqu'un d'aussi talentueux. Il est, en fait, celui qui m'a vraiment encouragée à produire un album il y a un bon bout de temps et j'ai finalement pu mettre cette belle idée en action. Il y a de ces gens précieux qui vous entourent...

In a previous post, I have talked about the preparation for the cover "look and feel". It was not only important to translate the album style and my personnality but you also have to think of technical considerations. I had long conversations with my friend and photographer Claude Brazeau about the concept. We have decided on studio photos on a white background and discussed the style of clothing. He was the one suggesting that I work with a stylist ( Luce Papineau whom I talked about in a previous message).

After a stop at the hairdresser's and the make up artist' s I was all ready for the shoot with several choices of clothes, shoes and accessories. After a few hours, we had a good pile of pictures both on a white and a black background. What was great was that Claude took the time to listen to all the songs on the album so he new what to go for and his indications were very focussed. I have several pictures that are great for the album and the website but also other pictures that I can use for other occasions.

Claude is not only a friend but he's also an excellent photographer. Weddings are his specialty but he also work for businesses and artists. He took pictures of many singers or groups, worked on the conception of cd covers and posters and he takes great pictures of live performances. I feel very lucky to be surrounded with people like Claude. He really encouraged me to produce this album a while ago and now it's done!

Enregistrement 2 - Recording 2

Enregistrer la voix s'est avéré pas mal exigeant . C'est exactement comme prendre une loupe pour voir tous les minuscules détails. Pas facile de s'entendre! C'est ce que disent également les musiciens. J'avais déjà enregistré plusieurs fois mais j'avais oublié l'effet et le réflexe de vouloir courir d'urgence chez le meilleur prof de chant. :-) J'ai constaté toutes les habitudes vocales que j'avais prises et j'ai eu l'impression d'avoir à réapprivoiser ma voix. Toute une expérience !

Et moi qui pensais m'être très bien préparée avec mon anglophone de mari, voilà que j'ai découvert que mon accent de québécois était bien présent une fois rendu dans le fameux micro qui entend tout. Nous avons travaillé fort là-dessus Normand et moi et je suis bien contente du résultat. Normand, à la console, était d'une patience d'ange (cornu parfois) et d'une bonne humeur contagieuse. Il m'a taquinée à tour de bras. Nous avons bien rigolé.

Je me suis sentie vraiment chanceuse d'enregistrer avec quelqu'un qui me connait si bien et avec qui je me sens très à l'aise. C'est sans parler de la grande confiance que j'ai en son talent, ses oreilles "bioniques" et son goût musical impeccable. Normand est le propriétaire du studio Morning Anthem Studio à Cumberland. Il est aussi mon contrebassiste depuis plusieurs années.

To record the voice on my cd was challenging as it's like taking a magnifying glass to see all the tiny details. Of course, musicians feel the same. I had recorded before but I had forgotten how it felt and the reaction to want running to the best voice teacher right away. :-) I realised the vocal habits I had developped and I felt I had to get used to my voice once again. Quite a positive experience!

And how about my accent! I thought it was all right as I had worked with my anglophone husdband who corrected a word here and there. But once in the studio in this very sensitive mic, it appeared that my accent was thicker than I thought. We have worked hard on it and Norm, at the board, was an angel of patience (with little horns sometimes). He had a contagious good mood and didn't hesitate to tease me. We laughed a lot.

I felt very lucky to be recording with someone who knows me well and whom I felt so comfortable with. This is without mentioning the trust I have in his talent, his good ears and his excellent musical taste. Normand is the owner of Morning Anthem Studio in Cumberland and he is also a bass player I sing with since many years.

Faire appel à une styliste / A stylist

J'ai tellement de placottage en retard ! Ça fait quelques jours que je veux vous parler de mon expérience avec la styliste Luce Papineau. Claude, mon photographe, m'a suggéré de faire appel aux services d'une styliste pour élaborer un look pour la pochette de mon album. Sur les conseils d'un autre ami photographe j'ai contacté Luce Papineau.

Quand je suis arrivée chez-elle, je l'ai reconnue tout de suite puisque je l'avais vue à l'émission Métamorphose du Canal Vie il y a quelques années. Elle réside maintenant dans l'Outaouaisdepuis quelques mois et elle a déjà des émissions régulières de radio et de télévision à son actif, en plus de donner des formations et de guider des clientes dans le renouvellement de leur garde-robe. Bref, elle a une tonne d'expérience et elle a bien su cerner ce dont j'avais besoin en plus de me donner des conseils judicieux au sujet de ma silhouette. Parmi les neuf types de silhouettes, nous avons déterminé que je suis une poire mesdames et messieurs ! Ou en tout cas, j'en ai la forme. :-) Comment habiller une poire ? C'est ce que Luce m'a expliqué.

Nous avons fait deux sessions de magasinage. J'ai vite compris qu'elle avait une passion pour son métier ! Elle voit tout, elle est infatigable et elle est efficace. J'avais la langue à terre depuis au moins deux bonnes heures et elle avait encore du jus pour imaginer et dénicher des vêtements. Grâce à son aide, j'ai maintenant des nouveaux morceaux que je n'aurais jamais osé acheter toute seule mais qui me vont très bien et qui "jazzent" ma garde-robe et j'ai eu plein de looks différents pour ma session de photo. I have so many things to say! I wanted to tell you about my experience with Luce Papineau, stylist. Claude, my photographer, had suggested that I get the help of a stylist for the look on my cd cover. A friend of mine suggested to contact Luce Papineau.

When I arrived at her place, I recognized her right away because I had seen her at a TV show called 'Métamorphose' on Canal Vie a few years ago. She moved in Gatineau a few months ago and already has regular radio and television shows as well as workshops and invididual consultations. She has a ton of experience and she understood what I needed besides helping me with her tips about my silhouette. Among nine types of silhouettes, we have identified that I'm a pear. Or I should say that I have its form. :-) How to dress a pear? That's what Luce explained to me.

We had two shopping sessions. I quickly understood that she had a true passion for her profession ! She sees everything, she is tireless and she's efficient. I was tired after a while but she still had energy to look around and find interesting clothes. Thanks to her, I now have new clothes that I would never have bought by myself but who really jazz up my wardrobe. I also had several different looks for my photo shoot.
