(English will follow)

Nicole

Is that possible that I didn't write in my blog in such a long time? It seems that, indeed, that's what happened. Anyway, today, I really wanted to talk to you about my two next shows. First, I'll sing at the Ottawa International Jazz Festival on June 26 which makes me very happy. I also have a project that is simmering since a long time and that I have called "Nicole jazze le Québec".

Besides preparing the Jazz Festival repertoire, my pianist/arranger, Jean-Pierre Allain, and myself are working like bees on the arrangements for this show which will feature some of my favourite quebecois songs. You could say that these Quebec songs will be dressed in jazz and it gives a good idea of what it will be.

It was really not easy to do the selection! It took hours and hours of research and listening to find the songs that were the most significant for me but the most difficult was to make a choice and eliminate several beautiful songs otherwise the show would have lasted the whole night. Then, my list was screened by Jean-Pierre's "harmonic eye". I'm so looking forward to see the reactions because we have planned for some surprises and delightful moments.

For now, I'm glued to my music software to prepare the charts and I practice like crazy. So don't miss this show on Monday, July 4 at 7:30 at les Brasseurs du temps. I'll be there will Jean-Pierre Allain on piano and Normand Glaude on bass. It will be a warm and intimate show! I suggest that you make a reservation at 819 205-4999, poste 1 because the room doesn't hold more than 60 persons.

Don't forget my show at the Ottawa International Jazz Festival on Sunday, June 26 at noon with my four musicians: Jean-Pierre Allain on piano, Normand Glaude on bass, Denis Ouellet on drums and Mike Tremblay on saxophone. This year, my performance will be at Rideau Centre (Sears). I'm very much looking forward to sing with these musicians I really like and who are so talented!!

Looking forward to see you soon!

Wow, it's been a while since I last wrote in my blog! After the frenzy of my CD release and my jazz vocal students show (which was a success), I must admit that I was a bit out of breath. Since then, I sang a lot and I took care of the two venues I'm responsible for the music programming, while preparing my June shows.

The Ottawa International Jazz Festival starts tomorrow and I have the pleasure to be amongst the first artists to perform. It's very cool since after that I just get to relax while going to all the shows of my favorite artists for the rest of the festival. I sing on June 24 at Noon on the OLG Stage that is under the large tent at Confederation Park (Elgin and Laurier). I will be there with my usual musicians: Jean-Pierre Allain on piano, Normand Glaude on bass, Denis Ouellet on drums and Mike Tremblay on saxophone. I will do most of the songs on my album and I will have some CDs with me for people who would want to get one. Link to the OIJF.

The day after, on
Friday June 25 at 8 p.m., I sing on the Chelsea Pub's charming terrace (www.chelseapub.ca). It's the first show of a series of three that constitute the first Chelsea Jazz Festival that has been organized by the Chelsea Pub's owners to bring a little bit of the Ottawa Jazz Festival's flavors in this little village. This time, Garry Elliott will be on guitar, Tom Denison on bass, Denis Ouellet on drums and Mike Tremblay on saxophone. I will, of course, do some songs from my album but I will also sing a variety of jazz standards, bossa nova, funk and French songs.

Come and relax after your week! There is a lot of ambiance on that terrace that has been nicely renovated two years ago. Seats are limited so
make a reservation by calling 819 827-5300.

For those who would like to see the two other shows,
Groovus Maximus will be there on Saturday and Servantes on Sunday.

See you there!

Un lancement réussi ! A successful launch!

Already a few weeks that my album was released and I'm back into normal work into my several projects. Friday March 19th, the NAC Fourth Stage was packed and the musicians were on fire. It was a great evening that makes a wonderful beginning for my new album. Thanks to those who were there with their warm presence. I had a great time!

I had some interviews that I will post on my website soon (Radio-Canada, Planète FM, CIMF and CHUO 89,1). I have also added excerpts from my album. Even though my site is very new, it already needs to be updated. It's true that a website requires a lot of constant attention.

Next step is to distribute and promote the album and that's what I'm at since the release.

Miscellanious:
My photographer, Claude Brazeau, won two awards lately: Photographer of the Year in Ontario and First Prize at the "Concours Circuit-Photo 2010". Congratulations Claude! Read the details on Claude's blog at www.claudebrazeau.com.

I'm singing at Les Brasseurs du Temps this Saturday (April 17) with guitarist Tim Bedner, opening for Les Moindres (folk-rock), a band from Gatineau. I'm sure it will be a lot of fun. Join us at 7:30 p.m! I will also sing at the Ottawa International Jazz Festival on Thursday, June 24th. I'm delighted to be singing on the first day of the Festival and it's nice that it's also la St-Jean-Baptiste. I'll certainly sing an arrangement of a beautiful song from Quebec made by my talented pianist Jean-Pierre Allain.

********
The album is now into the printing process. To do so, we have contacted Standard Media Services from Ottawa whose client services are quite impressive. I encourage you to visit their website which is really well done! They're easy to deal with and are quick to respond to any email or phone call. Their estimate and invoicing system is quite efficient. I'm looking forward to see the result! Hopefully, it should be as good as the services I have had so far with them. Above is a preview of the album cover.

Do you have your ticket for the cd release?

Next step is to talk about it! I already had an interview with Alayne McGregor from Ottawa Jazz Scene and Peter Hum will also talk about on his very popular and very interesting blog at http://www.jazzblog.ca/. There will (was) also radio shows who will play a couple of tracks. Among them, "Jazz et compagnie" from CHUO 89.1 FM with André St-Jacques (every Monday from 7 to 8 p.m.) and CKCU 93.1 FM "In a Mellow Tone" with Ron Sweetman, every Wednesday from 9 to 11 p.m. Others to come. I will have some interviews during the week previous to the release concert. Mentions on Facebook and Twitter are also posted as well as messages to my mailing list.

For medias follow-up and promotion, I'm lucky to have some help from my friend Jean-Pierre Moisan, manager of Big Band Caravane, in which I sang for several years, and manager of a couple of bands (SOULGRÜV, to name one). Jean-Pierre Moisan is, as usual, doing an outstanding job.

Then, my website, very new, will be regularly updated, mostly after the release concert. Among other things, we are going to add some excerts from the album as well as videos and other information. Well, a website is always a "work in progress" isn't it? :-)
